Narrow Gap MIG Welding is a specialized technique within the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process, tailored for joining thick materials—typically ranging from 12.5 mm to several hundred millimeters in thickness. Unlike conventional MIG welding, which employs a wider groove, narrow gap welding utilizes a V-shaped or nearly parallel groove with a small root opening, allowing for efficient welding with fewer passes. This reduces filler material consumption, shortens welding time, and enhances productivity.

This method is particularly advantageous in applications where reducing material usage and minimizing distortion are critical. By limiting the groove width, heat input is controlled, which significantly decreases thermal distortion and preserves the mechanical properties of the base material. Narrow Gap MIG Welding also improves root penetration and weld integrity, ensuring strong, defect-free joints even in thick plates.
